1. How to Order

Orders can be placed though our website, by email or over the phone. Once you have placed your order we will send you a confirmation email, within 24hrs (or on the next working day). Once you have received your confirmation email you have entered into a purchase contract with us.

The items on our product line are manufactured to order, the standard lead time is 6 – 8 weeks. Occasionally we will have stock, this will be indicated alongside the product on the website.

In the unlikely event that the goods are no longer available, we will advise you of this. In this case you will not receive a confirmation email and there will be no purchase contract between us.

We reserve the right to withdraw any product from the website at any time.

Bespoke Furniture Orders: (not ordered online)

On acceptance of your commission we require a deposit of 50% of the value of the item plus the delivery charge (if applicable). Once your furniture is available for dispatch we will contact you to collect the remaining balance. On confirmation of the receipt of the final payment, we will contact you to arrange a convenient delivery date and time.

2. Delivery

We deliver using a variety of logistics partners depending on the size of the item and destination. While we do everything we can to adhere to the delivery times stated, James Smith Designs Ltd. cannot be held responsible for any delays which are beyond our control. Items are delivered by a single driver to the ground floor of your property only. Please contact us if you need a different level of service. Please be advised that levels of service will vary according to the country of destination.

All of our products are quality checked before leaving the factory in perfect condition but please inspect your goods on arrival, and ensure that they have remained this way in transit before signing for them. If you are unable to check the contents on arrival please specify that you have inspected the box only (remark on its condition if possible) and please check goods within 24hrs. If you sign for the goods and they turn out to have been damaged the transport company will not assume liability.

In order to keep your goods in the best possible condition during transit they are carefully packaged. It is essential that you keep this packaging until you are 100% satisfied with your order. If you wish to return your order for any reason, we can only accept the product if it is returned in its original packaging. It is also essential that you retain the packaging if you are disputing damage done by the delivery company in transit as they will need to inspect this before rectifying.

3. Cancellations and Returns

We operate a 7-day Cancellations policy. If you are not satisfied with your order you must let us know in writing, within 7-days of delivery, either by email to studio@jamessmithdesigns.co.uk or post to James Smith Designs Ltd, Argal Home Farm, Kergilliack, Falmouth, Cornwall, TR11 5PD.

If you request a refund, we will refund the amount you paid for your goods excluding the original delivery charge (unless the goods arrived faulty or damaged). The delivery charge is non-refundable. The goods must be returned in original condition, and in the original packaging. Any damage or deterioration of the products will result in us charging you for the reduction in value – this will be reflected in the amount of your refund.

Please ensure you check your goods thoroughly to ensure you are 100% satisfied before disposing of the packaging.

Bespoke items cannot be returned.

For security reasons, refunds are issued via the original method of payment.

This cancellation policy does not affect your statutory rights.

4. Faulty Goods

We work hard to ensure your goods arrive in perfect condition. However, if you should find any problem with your order please contact us at studio@jamessmithdesigns.co.uk

Please do not attempt to fix the problem yourself. We are unable to accept goods back if changes have been made as this invalidates the manufacturer’s warranty.

We try to display products as accurately as possible on our website. However, as different computers will display colours differently we cannot guarantee the complete accuracy of pictures of photographs shown.


Wood appearance:

We supply high quality furniture grade wood. The grain, colour, knots and other markings may vary. We do our best to select and match as appropriate but we cannot accept returns on the basis of natural variations. Any special requirements made at time of order for colour, matching etc. must be provided in writing.

Wood warping, shrinkage and dimensional changes:

Wood is an active material and is known to have dimensional changes depending on temperature, moisture, humidity etc. We use furniture grade timber, which has been dried correctly, but sometimes dimensional changes can still occur, especially when the finished product is shipped to drier climates. We will accept returns if dimensional changes occur because the timber was not dried correctly, but NOT if the issues arise from climatic differences. This is your own responsibility to regulate. We are happy to advice on the appropriate climate for your item.

5. Privacy Policy

Any personal data collected from you by James Smith Designs Ltd, is collected from you only for the purpose of fulfilling your orders for products, order processing and payment clearing, future communication and liaison with you (if you opt in at the time, or join our mailing list)

Your personal data is kept confidential and is not shared with any third parties, except for the processing of credit card transactions, fulfilling orders and delivering packages. All online transactions are processed via Shopify. You can refer to Privacy Policy here

Our website contains links to third parties’ websites. You take your own risk if you supply any personal data to any of those websites and we will not be held responsible for any of their actions.
