Oak Ottoman by cabinet maker James Smith

Designed to fit a niche in the clients house below a window, this ottoman, or rug chest, was designed to store their collection of rugs & blankets. A requirement was to be able to keep a flower display undisturbed on top when they needed to get to the rugs, thus replacing the ottomans conventional top lid with a touch release drawer. An aspect that made this project particularly interesting for us and rewarding for the client was that the timber was sourced from their land. We harvested, planked and seasoned the Oak and were very pleased to find the extent to which it displayed these striking ‘cat’s paw’ markings.
